Director-Technical Community

Position Description
Reporting to the Office of the CIO, the qualified candidate will be responsible for managing our internal and external global developer community, analyzing current processes and identifying strategies for growth; integrating agile and DevOps methods as the foundation. This role will lead: optimizing existing workflow and communication processes, building frameworks around projects to identify success, measuring and reporting to executive leadership on how the developer community is impacting Walmart Technology in a measurable way, designing cohesive communications pathways between the Developer Community and Walmart Technology's greater marketing/PR engine, crafting orientations and training, and defining best practices for lean/agile methodology.
The Director of Technical Community is a public-facing role which requires travel to selected conferences, events and Meetups, as well as to the global Walmart headquarters.
This leader must be solutions-oriented, uniquely passionate about tending to our developer community, highly engaged in the open source global community as a whole and committed to creating excellence. The role requires a contagious and steadfast focus on the mission to establish Walmart Technology as the Number One online retailer. An existing reputation as an ambassador in technology is a must.
Responsibilities & Requirements:
Define best practices for problem solving, ways of working, and healing pain points on a communal scope.
Proven background creating Best of Breed community growth and management strategies in the open source, cloud and technology space.
Fluent knowledge of current communication channels such as Slack, Twitter and LinkedIn.
Fluent with common spaces such as: GitHub, JIRA, and Confluence.
Advanced knowledge of blogging and strategies for utilizing writing and digital media as a community advancement tool.
Extensive experience working in startup cultures, building communities and systems from the ground up.
Extensive experience working in enterprise and large corporate entities, building systems and refining existing systems.
Responsible for approving curated conference, Meetup, event and engagement calendar which represents Walmart Technology's Technical Community outreach.
Liaison for partnerships and relationships between Walmart Technology and government agencies, universities, businesses and industry thought leaders.
Act as Walmart OSS Ambassador. Represent all of our open source projects and sharing the projects with global developer community across the communities affiliated with various programming languages and software.
Moderate the way our developer teams are showcasing our technological advances in the public facing realm, such as in analyzing presentation branding and methods and optimizing for streamlined and cohesive execution.
Educate and empower developer team with the tools and knowledge base to participate in cohesive systems of communication internally.
Must have a strong knowledge of DevOps culture, community and Agile cultures. Able to create strategies for implementing new processes adherent to these cultures and iterate effectively to support the creation of the Irresistible Developer Experience.
Prior and proven experience managing, building and growing technical communities.
Experienced managing large teams of developers and the processes associated.
Fluent in collaborating with top tier leadership to develop new methods for growth and evolution of process.
Fluent working with marketing engines of both startup and enterprise companies to ensure messaging is aligned with the Irresistible Developer Experience.
Able to implement, achieve and report on corporate-level goal sets efficiently, across teams and as requested from Executive Leadership.
Experienced at creating sub-cultures and environments adherent to the fabric of our essential corporate culture of respect, integrity, ethics and honesty.
Minimum Qualifications
4 years of supervisory experience.
Bachelor's degree in Information Technology, Computer Science or related field and 8 years experience in information technology or related field within the past 15 years OR 10 years experience in information technology or related field within the past 15 years OR Master's degree in Information Technology, Computer Science or related field and 6 years experience in information technology or related field within the past 15 years.
Additional Preferred Qualifications
4 years experience developing, presenting, and implementing technology strategies.
4 years experience managing large-scale global projects.
4 years experience managing vendor and supplier relationships.
4 years experience supervising teams in both direct reporting and matrix structures.
4 years of contract and budget management experience (for example, procurement of services, hardware, cost center P&L management).
A high level of technical understanding required. Engineering degree, Computer Science degree preferred but not required. Strong background working around open source, software defined networking, virtualization, or programming a must.
Five years recent experience managing fast moving, complex technical teams. Experienced in both startup and enterprise legacy companies required.
The ability to motivate a team and stakeholders
An existing relationship with the open source community and developers from a wide variety of open source projects required.
Five years recent experience developing, implementing and iterating technology strategies.
Five years recent experience managing projects for global, large, cross-departmental teams within the scope of technology. Focus on open source software a plus.
Familiarity with open source contribution processes.
Managerial experience around design of communication strategies, supporting conflict and compromise management goals.
Must have a fluent and proven understanding of digital communications including Twitter, Slack and LinkedIn.
Must be very comfortable with software overall and quick to learn/understand new software so as to be able to work with and understand the needs of the internal and external community members effectively.
Experience teaching individuals and groups new methods and ways of working to support a streamlined and enhanced work experience.
Proven ability to work across multi-cultural environments.
Bachelor's Degree and higher desired, some type of formal education required and proof of supporting qualifications.

Don't Be Fooled

The fraudster will send a check to the victim who has accepted a job. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
